What's New At The Library?

Library Closure: March 14 - April 7
Posted on: March 13, 2020

The Lanark Highlands Public would like to notify the public that we are closed temporarily. The decision is in response to recent measures implemented across the Township under the guidance of public health officials with regards to COVID-19. As of today we plan to reopen on Tuesday April 7th.

These measures are being undertaken for the health and safety of our community:

• Due dates for all currently checked out materials has been extended until after we reopen and late fees are suspended so you do not need to worry about returning your materials during the closure;
• Holds will be suspended and pick up expiry dates extended;
• Computer bookings, programs, events and outreach activities are cancelled.

The Library will continue to actively monitor the evolving situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. We are working closely with local municipalities, public health authorities and Ontario’s library services agencies to make timely, responsible decisions about programming, services and access.

New Hub

We are pleased to announce we've found a home for our first book hub outside the North Lavant Community Hall! The book hub follows the idea of "little libraries", providing a book box for the public to access free books outside of the normal library locations. The idea is to take a book and pass it on, promoting both reading and recycling! Each book hub recipient coordinates volunteer stewards, who manage their individual book hub. Books are supplied via donations and discards from the library. The book hubs were funded by the Community Fund for Canada's 150th and each was handcrafted by members of the Perth Men's Shed group. The Lanark Library has a second book hub available and we are looking for a home for it at a central accessible rural location, and a steward to maintain the book hub. If you are interested, please contact the library!
